Hair Accessories for Summer

We’ve got our sun dresses on, slipped on our favourite flip flops and smiling behind our oversized glares. It’s time to get our hair in the summer mood too!
In Bloom
IMG_9709Our first thought – flowers of course! They are so quintessentially summer. They immediately get you thinking fresh and feeling vibrant. Nothing creates a prettier picture than a beautiful little flower(s) lightly tucked behind the ear. Simple yet oh so elegant!

If you can’t get your hands on fresh blooms (and we don’t advocate randomly plucking them), don’t fret. From designer brands to high street stores to your trusty street stalls, you’ll find an abundance of flower motif-ed accessories. Since braids continue to be a hot hair trend this season we love the idea of pinning up a couple of micro braids with the mini enamel flower bulldog clips by Accessorize. Who needs a time machine when you’ve got the ASOS Sunflower Headband: it takes us back to an era when free love reigned. Draw on multicultural influences for a flamenco-dancer-meets-bohemian-goddess look with an oversized flower clip like the Johnny Loves Rosie Silk Corsage pinned to a messy low bun and worn with a fluid maxi skirt for maximum effect.
Mad Hatters
When the heat gets too much, pull out your summer hats to give your locks some much needed respite. And if you look great in the bargain, who’s complaining! The materials of the moment: straw, jute and crochet. Oversized floppy hats will fool people into thinking you’ve just returned from the Riviera. We’d wear the huge sun hat by Promod with a pair of super stylish bright wedges or the wide corsage floppy from Accessorise to make a statement. We’re in love with Aldo’s androgynous Crochet fedora; add a pair of shorts and brogues and you’ve got oodles of rakish charm. The bright blue ribbon fits right into this season’s neon colour trend. You’d think that cowboy style and chikan embroidery would never go together, but this adorable cowboy hat from Zara will make you think twice.
No, we’re not asking you to turn into rebel rockers overnight. This summer get creative with your scarves and bandanas and use them to create new hairstyles. They’re quite versatile so you can go for any mood you want – romantic, quirky, edgy – take your pick! We love what Hermès did on the spring/summer catwalks with scarves weaved into braids – the style reminds us a little of country girls but we’re sure you can make it work in the big city too. For a simple and completely hassle-free style, just tie up your hair into a top knot or a high pony – you don’t have to be neat about it – and wrap your bandana around it. It’s especially useful on those dreaded bad hair days. If all fails, use it as a hair band – a hark back to the 60s what say! You could stick to solid colours... but we say go crazy with prints. Anything that reminds you of summer – choose from flowers - Manhattan Nights Rose Bando by Accessorize, citrusy fruits - Lespier by Aldo, a beach-side city - Côte d'Azur printed silk-chiffon scarf by Swash or if the season just makes you smile try the ASOS Happy Face Headscarf.
