Get Rid of the Grease

The worst thing about living in a sea side city is the year-round humidity, which only gets worse in the summer. Freshly shampooed hair stays that way for a few hours at best before the scalp’s oil takes over and makes it limp and scraggly. You can’t even think of setting foot outside your house without shampooing every day, no matter how pressed for time you are. But we found out how you can foil the oil and not let it ruin your summer!

Washing

There’s no question that you must regularly clear your scalp of all the accumulated oil. The oil glands in your scalp can be triggered by stress or hormonal changes, but most often by the environment to produce excess oil. This causes the harmless bacteria that live in your skin to proliferate and feed off the oil, which produces a bad smell too! Regular washing is a must.

You need to find a good product that not only cleans out the oil but prevents the roots from drying out too. Kérastase Specifique Bain Clarifiant Shampoo and Kérastase Specifique Bain Divalent are designed to manage over-active scalps prone to oiliness. For a light-weight formula try Drama Clean by Herbal Essences, while L'Oreal Professionnel’s Sebo Control Shampoo will give a more salon polished look. Avoid conditioners if possible but if you must use them, apply it only to the ends of your hair.

Touching Up

But if you live the lifestyle that is worthy of a metropolitan city, chances are you have less than half an hour every morning to dedicate to getting dressed for the day. Washing your hair doesn’t usually fit into that time frame. What will work is a dry shampoo – it’s nothing short of a miracle product. Open, spray, tousle – three steps that take all of five minutes and you’re out of the door. A light mist of TIGI’s Rockaholic will get rid of any shine or try Suave Dry Shampoo; for just about Rs. 150, it’s a bargain buy!

Styling

Oily hair can be a nightmare to style and what’s worse is that you can’t use regular styling products like gels or mousse because they’ll just increase the sticky factor. But there are a handful of products that make even the oiliest hair easy to manage. Paul Mitchell’s Pray Wax will give you thickness and volume without weighing your hair down. Pantene’s Classic InControl Mousse is light and fluffy and doesn’t leave an oily residue.

Unfortunately many brands aren’t very easily available in India so if you can’t find any of our recommendations at your favourite beauty store – shop online! Websites like www.feelunique.com and inen.strawberrynet.com have a great range of international products and offer free shipping.
