MTV Video Music Awards India 2013

You know what’s great about the MTV Video Music Awards coming to India? The red carpet fashion that was taken up a notch. A number of Bollywood stars took their style statements to a whole new level, giving us something to talk about and giving the usually predictable red carpet some pizzazz.

Priyanka Chopra made for the most eye-catching appearance, with a poster-print dress and a wildly exaggerated bouffant. The half-up-half-down hairstyle showed off her nearly backless dress, with hair pulled away from her face. The ‘do was creative enough to garner attention but fuss-free enough to let her dress make a statement.

Sara Loren also gave her hair a bit of volume, but chose to put it all up - a decision that aptly pulled all our attention to her striking dress. Making a similar appearance was Zarine Khan, in an equally arresting dress, who put her hair up in curls but let a bit of it frame her face. While the hairdo is nothing we haven’t seen on the red carpet before, it’s still slightly more experimental than the usual. And more importantly, it’s perfect for the ensemble, don’t you think?

Keeping it classy and chic was Evelyn Sharma, with her hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail. The minimalistic hairstyle complemented the solid yellow figure-hugging dress that she wore, keeping the whole look simple but impressive.

Anushka Sharma also made a statement with her hairdo, keeping her bangs front and centre and the rest pull back in a slightly messy manner. The whole look could’ve been more refined, but the spiky bangs definitely added to the rocker-chic appearance she was going for.

The over-the-shoulder side-swept curls were back again, but this time with a twist. Trust Anusha Dandekar to add a little spice to what is otherwise a widely overworked hairstyle. The tightly curled hair was securely pinned to one side with a hair embellishment, a move that changed the usually boring hairstyle to an interesting one, especially when paired with her dress. A wonderful look on the whole, we think.
