WIFW Autumn/Winter 2013: Day 1

Want to know what’s got us excited? It’s that time of year again...Wills India Fashion Week took off yesterday with a handful of popular designers showcasing their Autumn/Winter collections.

Kick starting the show was Masaba Gupta’s much-awaited debut for Satya Paul, followed by Anaikka by Kanika Saluja Choudhry, Vineet Bahl, Surily Goel and more.

Fashion weeks aren’t just a window into new trends and a peek at what all the celebrities will be wearing in the coming season; they’re also the place for hairstyle-crazy people (like us) to derive inspiration from.

A relatively new concept, fashion weeks have nonetheless gained so much importance in India that we just had to give you a small glance at all the hairstyles we spotted on the ramp.

Here’s an overview of the hairstyle trends on the first day of Wills India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013.

Slicked back hair. A popular choice for many designers, the slicked back hair often tied into a ponytail was spotted a couple of times yesterday. Masaba Gupta at Satya Paul went for slicked back ponytails while Pankaj & Nidhi opted for the same, albeit with middle partings. The perfect choice of hairstyle to go with the designers’ groundbreaking creations, we think.

Middle partings with tight braids. Seen at Anaikka by Kanika Saluja Choudhry as well as Anupamaa by Anupama Dayal, the middle parting was paired with tight braids that worked differently for each of the designers. Kanika Saluja’s hairstyles added to the military-contemporary feel of her designs, while Anupama Dayal gave hers a bohemian twist with turban and head wraps. Also seen on Dayal’s ramp were embellished headbands with splashes of color to add to their bohemia.

Bouffant. Ah, the ever popular bouffant - another popular choice for designers. Namrata Joshipura had her models wearing tall bouffants, with their hair cascading down their backs; while bouffants paired with updos were seen on both the Nikasha as well as the Surily Goel ramps.

So now that you know what’s been happening on the ramps of WIFW, stay tuned for Day 2!
