Protect Your Hair Now!

Do you straighten/curl your hair every week? Yeah, we don’t blame you. No matter how much grief our hairstylists give us, heat styling is a temptation that’s hard to stay away from.

There are so many great products out there, however, that will make sure the flat iron or curler don’t end up making a mess of your hair. You’ll notice every time you style your hair it ends up looking slightly frizzy. That’s because even blow-drying it can suck the shine out of your hair.

So while you might love the straight, put together look that your flat iron gives you or the gorgeous beach waves you can coax out of your curler, there’s only so much your strands can put up with before splitting out into a frizz.

Of course, once said strands start splitting your only option is to get yourself a fab new haircut. But we’re going to give you a few options that’ll let you style your hair all the time while keeping them healthy and glossy. You’ll find plenty of products on the Internet that’ll protect your hair from the heat…but we’ve compiled a list of products that are readily available in India. Now you don’t have to wait for your cousins to make their trip down to India, you can just buy your hair products right here!

First up on our list is the Kérastase Ciment Thermique reconstructing milk that’ll give your frizzed out locks a boost. This heat protector is also the most popular one on our list.

Also a great cream is the Kiehl’s Heat Protective Silk Straightening Cream. Both Kérastase and Kiehl’s are brands that will work wonders for your hair. Give both of these a shot if the texture suits your hair.

Another great cream-based heat defense product is The Body Shop’s Brazil Nut Define and No Frizz anti-frizz cream. Body Shop products tend to be on the mild side though and while this is great for the environment (and in the long run it’s probably great for our hair, too) you may find that you won’t get immediate results.

Moving on to heat defense sprays, Paul Mitchell always has a very effective line of hair products. You’ll almost never go wrong with this brand – try their Paul Mitchell Soft Style Heat Seal spray. Like we mentioned in our earlier post here, the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum is great for giving your hair the shine it loses from a blow dry.

Another popular brand when it comes to hair products, TRESemmé has a wonderful spray you can invest in. The TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray is one of two editions – they also make one especially for when you’re curling your hair, called the Thermal Creations Curl Activator Spray. Take your pick!

If it’s a good quality affordable spray you’re looking for, we’d have to say the Toni & Guy Iron-It Heat Defense spray makes the cut. It’s available almost everywhere and it’s very effective, too - Toni & Guy is usually a brand you can never go wrong with.

And now for the last of our sprays… look for L’Oreal’s Eversleek Smoothing Mist to keep the frizz and flyaways at bay. A reliable spray that’ll work for almost any texture, spray it on before you style your hair.

Lastly, try the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask. It’s more of a reviver than a protector, but we thought it deserved a place on our list. It’s also made for coloured hair, so this is a great product for dry and damaged hair that you just don’t want to stop styling. Give it a go and see if it’ll work wonders for you!

We’ve given you quite a few products that’ll protect your hair, but the entire process is one of trial and error. Pick the one you think will suit your hair texture the most. If it doesn’t, try another one. As and when you find a product that suits your hair, try and stick to it. We find that’s usually an effective tactic in our never-ending battle against hair damage!
