Bollywood’s 5 Most Iconic Hairstyle Trends: Now

So we’ve already given you the story behind some of Bollywood’s most iconic hairstyles that originated between the 50s and the 80s. And unsurprisingly, a lot of those hairstyles have been reinterpreted to bring us our current trends.

We made a list of the top 5 most iconic hairstyles in the Bollywood film fraternity today. While they’re nowhere as representative as their historic counterparts, they still give us a sense of what latest trend is sweeping the nation’s red carpets.

Bangs: Front and centre, long and spiky. That’s the latest style when it comes to fringes and we have celebrities like Deepika Padukone and Dia Mirza propagating it. While the hairstyle may not suit everyone, it’s a great way to change your look completely and make you look more youthful. The good news? We don’t see this hairstyle going anywhere anytime soon.

The Bob: It takes the slightest bit of courage to chop most of your hair off, even when you know it’s going to grow right back. Take our word for it - if it will suit your face shape, it’s worth taking the leap. Take a look at Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu. We love them with their long hair, but their bob cuts sure do look trend-tastic!

Sleek and simple: Seen regularly on the runways, the sleek and simple look basically constitutes hair pulled back from the face and smoothened into a ponytail or an updo. The hairstyle could work out to look slightly futuristic or just chic. The no-fuss outcome is the perfect option for outfits that garner attention. Sonam Kapoor’s sleek knot and Aishwarya Rai’s sleek ponytail both add a simple elegance to their ensembles.

Side Swept Curls: A celebrity favourite for quite some time now, the side swept curls make for easy glamour, especially when worn with hair accessories like Kareena Kapoor in this movie still. This style usually calls for big, structured waves or curls that are paired with a side partition and then pinned to one side.

Poker Straight: Unlike the volume infused hairstyles seen decades ago, straightened hair has been trending for quite a few years now. A low maintenance hairstyle that’s easy to accomplish, poker straight hair will complement any and every outfit. Seen here on Katrina Kaif (note the side flicks!) and Neha Dhupia, straightened hair creates an effortlessly chic look.
